Breaking News

Written by: Kapow

It's been brought to my attention that you can now be banned for simply mentioning Home-Watch. Not even the URL. Just.Home-Watch.
Originally, TwilightVenom posted on the Lithium forums:

"That's odd. Is that really what happened when BuggieTechnica left? I don't think I was there when it happened.

EDIT: Come to think of it, I don't even know anything about what happened to BuggieTechnica. I asked about it on PSN Home Watch, but nobody answered. Anyone care to fill me in?"

And here's the edited post:
"EDIT: Come to think of it, I don't even know anything about what happened to BuggieTechnica. Anyone care to fill me in?"

So I told him to edit it back and keep editing it until they PMed him with an explanation as to why they are editing his post. But No. No PM so he continued to edit his post back to the original until they finally banned him. The reason?

Violating the rules and policies of the community, with actions such as spamming and posting inappropriate content. Your ban will last for 30 days effective 03-15-2010. Please do not attempt to evade your ban in any manner, as doing so will only serve to increase the length of your ban.

When your ban has expired, please refer to the Official Rules of Conduct and the New User Guide to review the rules and policies of the community. Additionally, please adhere to these rules and policies in the future, as future infractions will result in an extended or indefinite ban period.

Spamming and posting inappropriate content. So not only has our URL been censored, but now you can't even say Home-Watch. Why? We don't know really. Well..I should say we don't have a poor excuse from the Lithium staff as to why this is going on. But we all know it's because they are terrified of us. They are scared of this little blog. We have put the fear into the Home and Lithium staff. And all of this proves it. But this is not the end. We are not going to stop. Yes, this is Kapow, I am writing this article. I'm not fucking afraid of you. Ban me from the Lithium forums, I'll be back in 3 months. As long as Home exists, as will this blog. And as of today I will be signing every article I write here so everyone knows what I have to say. Of course, there's already a bunch of cowards reading my Twitter page without actually following me. But that's fine, keep reading baby birds, I'll feed you. And if you have a problem with me, scrape the sand out of your vagina and talk to me one on one.

We're watching you, and we will.not.stop.

  1. Sony/Lithium's censorship is getting a little out of hand. Are they that afraid of criticism?

  2. Wow I'm new here but a long time Home user and am very dissapointed with this. Has anyone considered starting their own Home forums?

    ReplyDelete
  3. Aw, poor Twilight. That's a really stupid reason to ban someone.

    ReplyDelete
  4. Wow that's really pathetic banning someone for mentioning this site.

    ReplyDelete
  5. Thanks guys. I'm actually glad this happened though, because it shows us just how far the mods will go to hide any traces of this blog's existence. Once my ban is over, I'm going to have a little talk with shungokusatsu. :)

    ReplyDelete
  6. A talk with shungokusatsu? So he's the fascist who nabbed you?

@Jona, there are other Home-based forums available, but of course nothing as big and with no official backing as the Lithium forums.

  7. It's either him or Avara, since both of them edited my post.

Yeah, an independent Home forum would be nice, if only to get away from lithium's censorship, but I don't know if many people would use it.

  8. The PlayStation forums do have a policy of which containing to certain kinds of content. This blog has demonstrated to promote hatred, flaming, bating, and trolling. Amongst other things against users and/or staff.

I know what you may be thinking. You think the Lithium forums are becoming some sort of totalitarian place but in reality, they are just enforcing the rules and regulations.

Don't get me wrong, this is what is to be expected for these kinds of opinionated blogs.

    ReplyDelete
  9. What rules are they enforcing here? Simply mentioning Home Watch shouldn't be a bannable offense.

    ReplyDelete
  10. Refer to #4 in the Rules of Conduct.

    http://us.playstation.com/rulesOfConduct/

Considering the rap sheet this blog has of attacking users; Whether it is the truth or not, from the PlayStation forums. They banned the site for a reason. The reason(s) why is what I've aforementioned above.

They obviously are keeping tabs on the site so if they should see a user advertising a site that has been, "red flagged" so to speak; Of course it is to be expected to get a warning proceeding a ban if the user(s) fail to comply.

If you got banned without being warned for this, then there truly is foul play going on.

    ReplyDelete
  11. More specifically I would guess they banned you because you advertised an inappropriate site in their eyes.

    ReplyDelete
  12. I wasn't even advertising the blog. I think my post was crystal clear in that respect. The mods really have no ground to stand on in this situation.

    ReplyDelete
  13. "I asked about it on PSN Home Watch" You may not directly tried to advertise the site but they apparently thought you did I'd assume.

    ReplyDelete
  14. That sounds like a stretch to me. The explanation for my ban mentioned spamming and posting inappropriate content, but it didn't say anything about advertising other web sites. While some of the posts on this blog are occasionally abusive, the name PSN Home Watch itself is far from inappropriate.

  15. hey krapow i was kudoing your posts in protest of your ban and shungdungladygaga took away my kudos abilities and purged the ones I did. Apparently he doesn't want anyone to know people actually listen and respect what you have to say.

    ReplyDelete
  16. i noticed that x-cult, when i was on the forums the other day i noticed my kudo count was the same as it was before i left so i assumed they did something like that.
thanks again though. i can't believe how scared we've made them.

    ReplyDelete
  17. Well, for me it was more of a peaceful protest. I have always been a fan of this blog because of my hand in getting it going. Even though I heavily disagree 40% of the time with some of it, I'll fight to the death your right to say it.

I have to admit from a user perspective, however, that the mixture of the lithium and home staff are really destroying their image. I find myself having less and less respect for them. I have zero respect for lithium. What bothers me so greatly about this is Home has a poor reputation as it is, and it continues to get worse. Jack Busar can get up on stage with his Johnny Depp Willy Wonka haircut and do jazz hands all he wants about Home numbers. If Home was doing half as good as their fake spin PR claimed, they'd have the funding to get better staff.

I think it's time for home watch to take this blog to the next level and add a forum, perhaps an IRC. Because even though I hate the attacks on people (Minus camrongirl, that's acceptable) you guys do point out a lot of the truth, and for that you seem to really have them running scared. To make such dramatic efforts to censor and hide this blog (Even behind the fake disguise of it being a "vulgar website") isn't just morally wrong, it shows a real lack of character on their part.

    ReplyDelete
  18. hey x buddy! Long time, do you ever log in anymore?

    ReplyDelete
  19. tbh, i would have banned you too for being an annoyin little shit. this blog, for all the "good" it does in exposing home problems, also posts some terrible stuff, ganging up on people that they dont even know, i mean some of you guys attitudes and actions on this site leave a lot to be desired for. twilights post mentioned the blog, as the blog takes part in the actions i mentioned above, it was edited out. twilight decided to put it in again, and again, rather than deleting the post, they gave twilight a chance by just editing it out again. now for god sake, if they've edited it out twice, you know its for a damn reason, its their house, you abide by their rules, if they edit it out, jus leave it, quit acting like a spoilt child tryin to be cool by "standing up against the man" and continously re-editing it. Twilight i'm supprised you let yourself become a pawn in this game kapow is playing, you should not have followed his advice by continuously editing it in, he has already been banned and he just used u to do his dirty work, and now you have had to suffer the concequences.

    ReplyDelete
  20. i feel kind of bad he got banned (for a bullshit reason, or actually, no reason was given) but it's not like i twisted his arm behind his back and made him do it. and banning people "for being an annoying little shit" wouldn't be very professional, which is basically the main purpose of posts like these, to show how unprofessional and fucked up these people are/ have become.
    and you can't deny that.

    ReplyDelete
  21. I can think for myself, thank you very much. I wouldn't have restored my original post if I didn't think it was the right thing to do. As a matter of fact, I thought of doing so even before Kapow suggested it to me.

If the mods really wanted to give me a chance, they would have sent me a PM explaining what was wrong with my post. I'm guessing they didn't do that because there's actually nothing wrong with mentioning Home Watch.

I don't regret what I did, and I'll keep on confronting the mods until they stop censoring us.

    ReplyDelete
  22. To poor grammar anon @ 11:39, I don't think "being annoying" warrants a ban. I believe in a realm where you're paying for a service, you have a right to express your opinion how you see fit. I didn't see either of these two gentlemen post advertising for websites. They didn't go "Hey moderation staff, FUCK YOU!" All they did was express themselves in a way that caused the Lithium/HCM conglomeration to become butthurt. I think it's a piss poor model of business to single out, harass, or censor your naysayers. It shows a lack of respect for the userbase.

To me it would be similar to if you were using a Microsoft operating system, and they disabled or crippled your access for talking down about them. I find the Lithium crew to be a bunch of idiot kids, and the HCM to be a bunch of idiot adults. (Minus Glasswalls)

    ReplyDelete
  23. oh, I'm still around, I just don't have you on my list anymore. Nothing personal, I just never see you

    ReplyDelete
  24. "mods until they stop censoring us". this is the stuff that gets me. some people are taking this far too seriously. honestly. whats the average age of the people who are "standing up for their rights" on this site? meh, "poor grammar", so sue me. you know exactly what i meant. you know what i dont do, pay for a service. most of the paid for items in home suck, i'm yet to be truelly compelled to purchase anything. this is the approach you need to take, rather than having petty squables and topics about whihc home forumite licks the most bum, and believe me theres a lot, you should be nailing down the key problems in Home and responding to them in a non trolerising mannor. thats how you're gonna fix home. the staff arent idiots, that buggietechnica idiot was no use, what did they do, got rid of him. cyd and all, who cares what job they do, they're not gonna make Home any better for any of us, they're simply mods. a lot of your frustrations come from the lack of proper decent things to do in playstation home. focus your points more on that and your site would probably get more possitive recognition. and glasswalls isnt the holy one either, every month he copies and pastes a thread from ages ago where they ask for our suggestions, the only reason being, the moderators can then just lock any individual threads that detail ideas using the answer "please use the suggestions thread provided" in order to keep the place clean.

    ReplyDelete
  25. So let me make sure I have all the details here. You dislike what we do. You dislike that we criticize Home. you dislike our "petty squables."

Yet, You're critiquing a a blog that critiques Home, for critiquing. That's a paradox that makes my brain hurt.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Censorship is a serious issue, no matter which way you cut it, so no, we're not taking this too seriously. By the way, I have been talking about Home's issues, but the forum also has issues that need to be addressed, some of which are quite serious.

When it comes to standing up for your rights, it doesn't matter how old you are, but just so you know, I'm 22 years old.

P.S. Home Watch was mentioned by two users on the forum after I was banned. Let's see if something happens to their posts.

    chunglo67 wrote:

a lot of people think the devs are lazy but @ this point I think they are intentionally running home into the ground

    PM-Rykuta wrote:

Oh jeez... You should probably watch what you say... The Home staff doesn't appreciate any real criticism... You don't want to be treated like the Watch, do you?

  27. nah not exactly, you're clearly not getting where i'm coming from. some of the stuff this blog comes out with is nonsense, such as the "locust smack talks game informer". this is the stuff i dont like on your blog, it has no basis and is clearly just there to spark conflict and criticism, it clearly wasnt news worthy. i dont agree with your personal attacks on users that you dont personally know. i think the stuff that lochwood and his alternative profile ms lochwood come out with is a much a loada crap as the next person, but who de feck cares, you dont see me dedicating posts to them. its as easy to put them straight on the forums without resorting to such low means.

    ReplyDelete
  28. He probably got banned because he repeatedly re-edited his message after the moderation took it out.

He got banned indirectly because of Home-Watch, but did he get banned just for saying it once? I for one applaud his act of protest, but this article has quite a bit of 'spin' it seems.

It will truly be a sad day if you get banned outright for simply even typing it. Continuing to re-edit your post is just asking for trouble.

    ReplyDelete
  29. @Anonymous 12:40
Don't assume I approve of Home Watch's abusive posts just because I follow it.

    @Alice the Sister
Like you said, it wasn't asking for trouble, it was an act of protest. I know full well what I did, and I don't regret it one bit. I don't particularly care about being banned either.

    ReplyDelete
  30. chunglo67 and PM-Rykuta's posts were deleted, so Rykuta posted the following in response:

"You should probably watch your language.... You'll be banned for such mean words... And for saying something about a watch apparently.... (But I love my expensive Rolexs, so I will be free to talk about my time-keepers)

I don't see why they are so afraid to get honest criticisms... To perfect your product, you need criticism from both sides. You don't silence those who give you the tough love for your own good and appraise the enabling masses who don't pipe up about pushing the service to the best of their abilities as much as they do about how much they love the continuous monotony that they keep releasing...

Update 1.35 was apparently a good fix (by what my girlfriend kept telling me) but every advance cannot be acredited to those who said "i wuv the nu stuf!!" Progress comes from those who realize what's holds one back and what they can REALLY do to work through those issues...

There's your wisdom for the day. That'll be $5..."

The first paragraph of this post was deleted. Luckily, LiLBlueEyes quoted it, and the mods have yet to edit the quote.

  36. With all the hubbub I caused, I forgot the reason I made that post in the first place. :) PaperCarrier claimed that before BuggieTechnica left, the offline/online indicator on his profile was nowhere to be seen, and he noticed the same thing on Locust_Star's profile. Here's the post:

"I smell bad news coming, Locust_Star's Online status no longer displays anything just like what happened when Buggie left us. Is Locust_Star really gone?"

Did that actually happen when Buggie left, and was it related to his departure?

  39. After reading x-cult's comment, I also think it's time to make our own forum and/or chat room to complement Home Watch. I'd take the job, but I once tried to run a forum and I wasn't very good at it. Would anyone else be up to the task?

  43. From the PlayStation Blog:

    "Hey everyone!

Over the past year, the PlayStation Home community has expanded its population exponentially. With this growth comes a need for more friendly and knowledgeable power users to help the throngs of newcomers that may need a little help getting oriented. That’s why I want YOU to apply to be a member of the PlayStation Home Community Volunteer program!

From serving as a guide for new users to helping out with community events, the PlayStation Home Community Volunteer program offers a great outlet to the most passionate Home users to help give back to the community that enriches their online gaming experience. So if you want to contribute to the growth of this vibrant social gaming community, I urge to you to follow THIS LINK and apply to become a member of this quickly-growing, and highly-popular, volunteer program!

Looking forward to hearing from you!

    –GlassWalls"

The rest of the world is once again left in the cold, since the HCM program is only open to residents of the United States. I'm pretty sure GlassWalls said something about giving fair treatment to Canadians, and yet we're locked out of the HCM program (along with everyone else). Good going, Sony.

  44. is "THIS LINK" a link to a different page within the forums or does it link to a different site?

    ReplyDelete
  45. It leads to a page on the PlayStation website. Check the PlayStation Blog for more details.
